Interface - Course 5

In general, the article is ''interresting'' and present what probably represent the best interface in movies. Otherwise, I felt the author is not neutral and give more importance or value to some interface according to is own personnal view of the future of interface. For me the most interresting interface discussed are the following:

The Star-Trek tabs, pads and boards

I believe they are the most realist interface to be develloped by human. They would be helpful to human and seems like they would be a realistic product in the current market. Tabs could be seen as an evolution or merge of the current cellphone and pda, giving more power and information to a single user. Simple ''pads'' are visible in diffirent environment (car, laptop) but they are still very limited in there functionnality or not easely portable. For the boards, we currently have different screen in public space (for quick info in metro for exemple) but they are not yet very interractive.

Hologram

Hologram seems to me like a very interresting and useful interface. As seen in Total Recall to teach tenis or in Time Machine to serves as guide in library, I clearly see a use for them. There main advantage is that human expression is much more readible to a human than any other interface.

Voice recognition

I dont believe voice recognition as shown in movies is currently realistic. I cant even imagine the implication of having a interface to recognize voice everywhere in a starship would imply in term of complexity of intstallation. Voice recognition would however clearly be useful as shown for exemple in Star-Trek, giving a much more human interface again.
